Have you considered using Pinterest to market your business? With more than 100 million users, and over 50% of those outside the U.S, it's time you should. Especially with our top tips for Pinterest marketing.
Especially as Pinterest is a social network geared more towards business and sales than almost any other. It's a pinboard for images to let users research and collect photos and information on a range of topics. And curating their favourite clothes, gadgets and products is usually a step towards buying them.
So how can your company make the most of Pinterest?
Pinterest Marketing Tips:
- Make sure you set up a Pinterest Business Account, not a personal one. This will give you access to analytics. And also let you take advantage of advertising and direct sales tools as they roll out to company accounts around the globe.
- Pin content from a variety of sources onto relevant boards for your business. For example, we've collected a lot of interesting art, achitecture and design pins in addition to our own web design and marketing content. These come from a variety of sites which we read for inspiration and enjoyment.
- Rewrite descriptions if necessary. Sometimes the automatically imported description might not be appropriate or may contain spelling mistakes. Taking a few seconds to replace it with something more useful can be much more effective.
- Make your website images pinnable. Vertical images with a minimum width of 600 pixels perform best (with an aspect ratio of height:width or 2:3 or 1:3.5. So 600 pixels wide to 900 pixels high, for example. Overlaying text can also be extremely useful, as your image will need to stand alone on Pinterest, without any article or website to explain why it's relevant. There's no need for hashtags, but including links can be helpful and they are highlighted in the descriptions.
- Add the Pin It Bookmarklet for your internet browser, which means you can pin quickly from whichever web page you're currently looking at.
- Add a Pin It Button to your website to allow visitors to pin easily, and also to give them a visual reminder to share your images.
- Make sure your website has great photos and images. They can be photos you've taken or commissioned. If you're using stock photos, then take your time to find a good resource and pick the best photo - for instance StockSnap.io, Unsplash and Gratisography.
- Connect with relevant boards and pinners. When you pin an image, Pinterest will show you other people who have shared the same image. Giving you a prompt to follow others with the same interests.
- Look at adding Rich Pins to your site. By adding specific Meta Tags, you can allow people to pin App Pins to encourage iOS app downloads, Place Pins with a map, address and phone number, Article Pins, Product Pins with real time pricing, Recipe Pins and Film Pins.
- Check out the range of tools available to make it easier to pin consistent quality content. For example, tools like Buffer will allow you to schedule pins in advance throughout the day, rather than flooding the site with 20 images and then nothing for a couple of days. The Buffer team have also created simple image editor Pablo, which will give you pictures which are perfect for pinning. Design tool Canva is also easy to use and allows you to create mosaic images and other special pictures which will increase engagement on Pinterest.
- Think about collaborating with other people. By creating shared boards, you can invite hundreds of pinners to submit their choices of photos and images.
